Seattle's Better Buildings Challenge

Posted

Seattle 2030 District, Community Power Works, Seattle Steam, and MacDonald Miller, are joining forces to develop Seattle's Better Buildings Challenge, which offers no-risk options for building owners to improve their buildings, complete with funding, energy performance agreements, and community workforce agreements (CWAs). The first completed project, the Washington Athletic Club, shows a 25% energy savings ($234k) per year and included a CWA for the hire of pre-apprenticeship graduates. There are several other major retrofit projects in the pipeline in Seattle, for all of which Emerald Cities Seattle is monitoring the CWAs to assure wage standards and community benefits. EC Seattle is also coordinating marketing and PR efforts, and developing a database that can be used for reporting and promoting the program.
